How to move

What start gentle actually means

Everyone says ease back in. Almost nobody says what that means in practice. Here is the boring, safe version, and why doing less is usually the faster way back.

In eleven years of treating people after injuries and surgery, the single most common mistake I saw was not laziness. It was enthusiasm. Someone feels a bit better on day four, does far too much, and spends day five and six worse than day one. Recovery is not a straight line, and the fastest way to make it a longer line is to push through a good day.

Gentle has a definition

When Reva says a session is gentle, it means something specific, and it is the same thing I would tell someone in a clinic.

  • Range stays inside what is comfortable. A stretch you can feel, never one that bites or catches.
  • Nothing loaded, fast, or forced. No jumping, no heavy weight, no bouncing into a stretch.
  • You could hold a conversation the whole time. If you are gritting your teeth, it is too much.
  • You finish feeling like you could have done a little more. That little more is tomorrow, not today.

The goal of an early session is not to get stronger. It is to tell your body that moving is safe. Strength comes later, on its own, once that message lands.

Read your soreness the next day

The best signal you have is how you feel the morning after. A little stiff that eases as you move is normal and fine. Sore in a way that lingers means the last session was a touch much, so the next one should be the same or easier. Sharp, new, or worsening pain is not soreness at all, and it means stop and ask a professional.

This is exactly the loop Reva runs on Plus and Care. You tell it how the last session felt in one tap, and it adjusts. Not because a number went up, but because you are a person who had a good day or a rough one, and the next session should know that.

Movement

Gentle ankle circles

  • 01Lie or sit comfortably with the leg supported
  • 02Draw slow, easy circles with the foot, as if tracing a small plate
  • 03Five one way, five the other, breathing normally

Keep the circles small and smooth. If you feel calf tightness with swelling, warmth, or redness, stop and contact a professional today.

None of this is dramatic, and that is the point. The unglamorous version, a little every day, within comfort, adjusted honestly, is the one that works.
